Taxi/Cab Service

On the island of Cozumel, the word "taxi" or "cab" refer to the same service. Buses do not exist for tourists, so taxis are the choice among many tourists. The taxi cab service is very plentiful and used widely. Fares are very reasonable and often the best choice for tourists to get around the island. Below is the most relevent information you will need for hailing a taxi/cab in Cozumel.

The following should be considered:

  • All rates are based on 1-2 people. Additional passengers will be additional. 
  • Although taxi rates are regulated, there may be fluctuation in price. Always ask or negotiate price before getting in the taxi.
  • Taxi van rates are doubled if you request it. You will be charged the price of 2 taxis plus $2 USD. However, If the van is next in a taxi stand and you put no more than 4 passengers, the price is the same as a taxi.
  • Most drivers understand English, however, it is a good idea to know a little Spanish, just in case. Print out the most common phrases here.
