Top 10 Cozumel Dive Sites

When it comes to scuba diving in Cozumel, there's simply nothing like it in the world. This easy drift diving mecca boasts some of the best coral reefs around. Fish are abundant and colorful, with so many different species. The coral and sponges are plentiful and hide hidden treasure in the form of micro organisms, like shrimp. From wall diving, to cave diving, there are simply so many different forms of diving, it was really tough to pick only ten. But alas, we had to narrow it down. So we polled the members to come up with the Top 10 Cozumel Dive Sites. Among them were dives suitable for both beginner and advanced divers, with a bunch in between. Whether you like current diving, huge coral formations or tons of fish, big and small, these ten dive sites will fit the bill. Here they are:

  1. Chankanaab Reef
     Chankanaab Reef is the reef that runs north to south, which is due to the unique current flow. This is an amazing night dive that has an abundance of marine life.
  2. Punta Sur Deep
    Punta Sur Deep is for the experienced diver. Home to "Devil's Throat" which starts in a dark narrow tunnel at 90 feet and takes you out into a sunlite opening at 130 feet.
  3. Columbia Wall
    Columbia Wall is one of our favorite dives. It is less dived than most and divers come to see huge coral pinnacles and a very impressive drop off with big marine life.
  4. Palancar Horseshoe
     Palancar Horseshoe has amazing towers of coral, including brain, star and sheet coral heads that protrude close to 20 feet of the surface.
  5. Bajo de Molas
    Bajo de Molas has amazingly magnificent coral heads and abundant aquatic marine life. It is not uncommon to see rays, sharks and sea turtles.
  6. Barracuda Reef
     On the north side and with currents running 2 to 10 knots with downcurrents, this is NOT for the unexperienced diver.You will find large schools of fish and a pristine reef.
  7. Maracaibo Deep
     The southernmost reef, the wall starts in 90 feet of water and has large orange elephant ear sponges, corals and also sharks, rays and loggerhead turtles.
  8. Cardona Reef
     Cardona Reef has a varied coral which start in only 18 feet of water and plenty of marine life. It is a great destination for beginners and snorkeling.
  9. Columbia Shallow
     Columbia Shallow is one of the best shallow dives and has rich coral formations, huge coral heads and a wide variety of marine life, with the best compliment of area fish.
  10. Tormentos Reef
     Tormentos Reef has some of the fastest currents found anywhere, which leads to coral pinnacles, brain and whip corals and eels, angelfish, groupers, grunts and more.
